Beliefs and Life Mission
Ricky Scruggs is passionate about helping people access their untapped potential. He believes they need to learn to believe three things; they are Loved unconditionally, they have infinite worth, and they were created for glory. He teaches what’s often overlooked in church: living out your faith in a competitive world; excelling and inspiring others. Ricky believes true success comes from understanding who you are, blending this powerful identity with new thought patters and practical strategies to help people thrive both socially and professionally.
Growing up in the tough neighborhoods of Prince George's County, Washington, D.C., Ricky learned resilience early on. Raised by a single father from age two, he went from the extremely volatile streets of city life to rural New Mexico at 13, where he became his step-grandparents’ where he faced a completely different type of adversity. But through sports and great coaches, developed his belief that, with the right guidance, anyone can overcome obstacles and achieve greatness. In 2003 Ricky quit his 6 figure job and opened Centerfield Training Academy, with the mission of building champions on and off the field. Ricky later founded www.buildingchampionsfor life. com a non-profit organization designed to do just that.
Credentials and Professional Expertise
Ricky’s experience as a former Division 1 and professional baseball player, coach, Sales training and management, and as an entrepreneur has given him valuable insights into human performance and personal growth. He also spent 12 years as a Salvation Army officer, working with everyone from high city officials and corporate boards, to the homeless and addicted. These diverse groups deepened his understanding of human behavior, potential no matter your circumstance, and the power of hope.
Since 1999 Ricky has more than put in his ten thousand hours to master coaching. Along with his hands on experience, he has credentials from the Disney Business Institute, certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and over 15 years of study with Jim Murphy, contributing to the Inner Excellence system. Through this journey, he believes God revealed a model of performance identity that guides elite performance and purposeful living.

A transformative period in Ricky’s life was his two years as a live-in counselor and pastor at an addiction recovery facility, where he learned that overcoming addiction and excelling in life both rely on healing trauma and building empowering beliefs. This experience became the foundation of his coaching approach.
In 2003, Ricky became a born-again Christian, which led him to serve as a pastor and specialize in addiction counseling, marriage enhancement, and personal growth. His blend of biblical wisdom, performance psychology, and practical strategies has helped clients from elite athletes to corporate leaders find purpose and resilience.
Ricky and his wife Sylvia have traveled across the country, connecting with teams and individuals to serve them and help them discover their gifts. Ricky’s clients benefit not only from his vast experience but also from his deep conviction that anyone, with the right support and mindset, can achieve the extraordinary. Whether coaching athletes, executives, or those seeking personal growth, Ricky’s mission is to bring people closer to Christ while equipping them to excel and live out their faith boldly in the world.
